FIRST LIGHT / LAST LIGHT, ongoing

Dazzling and tremendous how quick the sun-rise would kill me, if I could not now and always send sun-rise out of me. – Walt Whitman

The sublime is something that “fills the mind with an agreeable kind of horror” -Joseph Addison

The cross photographs are taken during the first and the last light of the day, on the Winter Solstice. I began taking these photographs to attempt to capture my experience with sublimity, while living alone in the desert of the American Northwest in the year 2001   .marymattingly.com
