Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, March 2012: The taxi driver joked, “whad didya think of sufferers paradise mate?” as we drove to the train station… I’d never heard of Surfers Paradise refered to as that.. I replied “okay, but not really my kind of place…” He nodded his head knowingly… “I know whad ya mean, I’m a Kiwi too- been here twenty years or so…it’s not that bad when you get used to it…” I’d been visiting the Gold Coast on an all expenses paid trip I won through my job… The views from my room on the 21st floor of the Sofitel Hotel at Broadbeach were amazing- a dramatic contrast to the views of the Holiday Inn Beirut in my previous post…

Weekly Photo Challenge – Through
The sun shone through the clouds
The last three months being the end of summer and the beginning of Autumn here where we are have been anything but sunny. Seeing the sun peaking out through the heavy cloud is a comfort. It just might be a nice day. They have been rare, even in Australia.
So the sun shone through and the water also flowed through these large drains on the local golf course. Really it has barely stopped flowing. All of the rivers and their creek tributaries are full to the brim and the ground is a very heavy with moisture. It feels like the ground cannot possibly take anymore falling rain. Some places out west have been in flood for weeks now.
Those folks out west on the Murray and Darling Rivers will be looking forward to these inland seas subsiding so that supplies can finally get through

I’m not sure if I should apologise for making this such a theme, or just feel really lucky to have seen so many beautiful sunsets. But. Here is the most spectacular sunset I have seen to date. These are taken in Cape Town.

Till next sunday April 1, I’m glad to share a special preview of a seven images series that I titled “The Spring Wings”. The whole series will be followed and concluded by a videoclip in which I’ll show a “live view” of that incredibile billboard from which I’ve made my artworks.
I think it’s one of the most astonishing torn posters I ever seen so far during my long research about ripped ads and urban signs. It was located in Lecco, a beautiful town on Como Lake (Italy). The incredible actions and re-actions made by time, weather and environmental conditions (rain, light, smog, humidity…) produced a capturing and harmonious mash-up of colors and shapes. I really had the luck to be in the right time in the right place… (in the following days the billboard was covered with new publicity posters).
